Integrating LLMs into Ethereum Protocol Security Research
An RFP to design and implement tools that apply large language models (LLMs) to Ethereum protocol security research. The goal is to automate parts of the auditing and specification-compliance process across client implementations, reducing manual work while improving coverage and accuracy. Projects should deliver deployable systems that can parse evolving specifications, compare them to client codebases, and flag inconsistencies or specification drift. Proposals must focus on integration into real workflows such as CI pipelines or GitHub PR checks, not on research-only prototypes. Full details, background, and proposal requirements are available in the document linked in Resources.

Ecosystem Need
Ethereum’s protocol security research requires frequent, detailed comparison of specifications, EIPs, and client implementations. This process is highly manual, complex, and prone to human error. As the number of clients and protocol changes grows, maintaining cross-spec alignment has become increasingly difficult. LLMs can help researchers identify mismatches, summarize code-spec diffs, and highlight possible vulnerabilities automatically. Well-designed tools could meaningfully reduce reviewer workload, increase test coverage, and improve the reliability of Ethereum’s protocol development cycle.
Hard Requirements
- Create technical architecture and design that provide an overview of the proposed system. - Working prototype integrated with at least one Ethereum client or specification repository - Secure, reproducible operation in local or CI environments - CI-ready interface such as GitHub Action or CLI that posts findings to PRs or dashboards - Clear documentation, usage examples, and setup instructions. - Secure handling of sensitive data and reproducible results
Soft Requirements
- Modular design for swapping models or prompt sets. - Maintenance or handoff plan for continued support. - Clear milestone plan and realistic project timeline
